The Geneva painter Pascal Saini, interested in the natural phenomenon’s, questioning about the individual and his relationships with things, let he carry by the painting and takes pleasure to experiment where it is leading him. His paintings, says the artist, are a connection with the mental: « what transformations the images of the real go through in our consciousness ». A developed sensory perception allows him to live and capt the smallest details, which are immediately translated into traces worked and reworked, creating a kind of humus, weaved of coats in profundity.
It is indeed the purpose of the recent oils, tracing a flash of light, the brilliance of a leaf, the underlying transparency or opacity of an aquatic surface enclosing a world of subtle shades, delicately looked for, like for example in the Etang, inhabited by carps. This fish is particularly important to the artiste because it expresses symbolically the movements of the unconscious. The oils, small in size, are in reality monumental in their expression and reflex ions on the part of the artist.

Concerning the large size works, „Traces hautes“, and the approach is completely different. Painted in the heights of the mountains of Engadin, they are set on paper. Multiple traces cross and are mixed, tracing different types of grounds, searching for imprints in the rocks, vegetation, rough and prominent textures structuring the ground, geometric rocky blocks or any element susceptible to please the artist’s eye. He is also looking for dynamic, high and conquering lines. These transferred and reworked „sgraffitis“ are altogether complex and of an extreme lightness, acting like a sort of breathing of the surface.
And if the eye is likely to follow one of these numerous traces, it is weaving, wandering, undulating, and turning suddenly in another direction before fatly run high up to the extremity of the unrolled band of paper. Like a fragile „rotulus“ lying on the ground, riveting the attention and receiving the elements of the imagination of the artist, it translates the passion and the know-how of the author. And in a permanent care in connection with the individual and his confrontation with the inside/outside, the artist inscribes the human presence in his researches and experimentations, an essential aspect of his creative purpose.
Finally, the painted surface, at the same time restrained and complex, with a sensitive and reasoning trace, is breathing on the heights of thought, of the mental and the richness the artist wants to express and share. An essential work to discover and rediscover.

Pascal Saini lives and works in Geneva. Teacher at the High School of Applied Arts in Geneva until 2009. Member of Visarte, Geneva. Numerous exhibitions in Switzerland, Geneva in particular. From 1982 to 1994, he realizes mural paintings ordered by the Geneva government in various communes (Lancy, Dardagny, Chancy).
